Is it permissible to seek divorce from a husband who is infertile and unwilling to discuss the matter, especially with advancing age and the desire to have children?

A wife's pursuit of khul' or divorce from her husband due to infertility is not a sin, because the desire for a child and the wish to procreate is a valid reason for seeking separation. Nevertheless, it is advisable not to rush into seeking separation. Instead, one should reflect, ponder the matter, consider the consequences, weigh the benefits against the harms, and strive in obedience to Allah, frequently remembering Him and supplicating to Him.
