What exactly is meant by obscenity and lewdness in speech if the speech is explicit and interspersed with sexual terms, yet free from incitement to vice or attacking people’s honor, taking into account the explicit expression found in the books of the Salaf and the biography of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding matters related to sex, purity, and marriage?

Islamic law prohibits obscenity and indecency. Obscenity refers to words and actions whose ugliness is great, and an indecent person is one with bad manners. The fundamental principle is to forbid indecent and obscene language. The texts of Islamic law usually use allusions rather than explicit statements for matters that cause shyness, due to the Prophet’s shyness, peace and blessings be upon him. However, there may be a need to explicitly state certain terms related to private parts in specific situations, such as for clarification and education regarding matters of hudud (punishments), or for rebuke. Examples include the Prophet’s saying, "Did you penetrate her?" to someone who confessed to adultery, and Abu Bakr’s statement to Urwah ibn Mas'ud al-Thaqafi, "Suck the clitoris of Lat." Indeed, to every occasion there is a suitable discourse.
