What is the reason for loving Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him), and what is the ruling on asking this question?

Among the reasons that necessitate love for the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, is that Allah made it obligatory and a condition for the soundness of faith and the attainment of its sweetness. Indeed, he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his child, his father, and all people." Also among the reasons for this is his excellent character, his mercy towards the Ummah, and his eagerness for their happiness.

As for love for Allah Almighty, its greatest reason is that He made it incumbent upon us to love Him more than anyone else. Allah the Almighty said: "But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah." And He said: "Say, 'If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your kindred, the wealth you have acquired, the trade you fear might decline, and the dwellings you approve are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiant people.'" Furthermore, observing His bounties, mercy, and gentleness prompts the sensible person to love Him. Asking about the reasons for this love, while submitting to the religious ruling, is permissible and the questioner is not considered a disbeliever.
