What is meant by "Al-Qurba" (the near of kin) in verses such as: "Say, 'I ask not of you any reward for it, save affection among kin (Al-Qurba)'" and "And know that whatever you take as spoils of war, indeed, one-fifth of it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives (dhī Al-Qurba)"?

The exegetes (scholars of Qur'anic interpretation) mentioned that the kinship referred to in the two verses is the kinship of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Suyuti narrated in "Al-Durr Al-Manthur" from Ibn Abbas that when this verse was revealed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about his relatives whose love was obligatory, and he said: "Ali, Fatimah, and their two sons."
