Does a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) break one's fast?

The colored liquid dye that is injected into the vagina before imaging is a matter of dispute among jurists as to whether or not it invalidates fasting. Some jurists (Hanbalis and Malikis) are of the view that it does not invalidate fasting, while others (Shafi'is) are of the view that it does. It is more prudent to avoid using it during obligatory fasting. For those who do use it, it is more prudent for them to make up for the fast.
