What is the ruling on seeking help from other than Allah to recover stolen property, and how does one expiate for that?

It is permissible to seek help from a creature in tangible matters within their capability, such as a person seeking assistance from someone to retrieve what was stolen from them through a permissible means. However, seeking help through charlatanry and divination to know the location of stolen items is not permissible, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever goes to a diviner and asks him about something, his prayer will not be accepted by Allah for forty nights." A diviner is one who claims knowledge of the location of stolen items or lost property. Whoever does this must repent and seek forgiveness.
