How does one repent from a usurious loan taken to complete the building of his house, a loan that has caused him several calamities such as losing his job and the deterioration of family relationships, knowing that he cannot repay the loan in a lump sum? And is his praying at home instead of in the mosque due to these circumstances considered one of the calamities?

Usury is one of the gravest sins, and its perpetrator is cursed, with dire consequences. Even if his wealth increases, it will eventually diminish.

If the usurer repents, Allah will accept his repentance. He must return only the principal to the bank, while abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving never to return to it. He must also be sincere in his repentance, increase his seeking of forgiveness, strive in good deeds, and maintain congregational prayers, especially the dawn prayer, for indeed, good deeds erase evil deeds.
