Adam, peace be upon him, knew all languages and the names of everything, including the names of "al-jafnah (a large bowl) and al-mikhlāb (a claw)," as reported by Ibn Abbas. The proof for this is the Almighty’s saying: (And He taught Adam all the names). Al-Qurtubi mentioned, citing Ka’b al-Ahbar, that Adam, peace be upon him, was the first to lay down the Arabic script, the Syriac script, and all other scripts, and he spoke all languages.
