Allah, glory be to Him, taught Adam the fundamentals of all languages, and he used to speak them. This is the view held by the accomplished scholars. One can refer to the exegesis of His saying, "And He taught Adam all the names," and to the books of Usul (principles of Islamic jurisprudence) in the section discussing whether language is divinely ordained (Tawqifiyyah) or conventional (Istilahiyyah).
