Is wearing shorts while playing basketball forbidden?

Practicing sports is permissible as long as it does not distract from an obligation or waste time, in which case it becomes makrooh (disliked) or haram (forbidden). It is stipulated that the player must not expose their awrah al-mughallazah (severe nakedness), which includes the thigh.
