Was the Prophet's explanation of the Qur'an bound by his time and subject to change, or was it comprehensive for all times and places and not open to independent reasoning (ijtihad)? And did he explain the entire Qur'an to his companions, and how did he explain the scientific verses that were only discovered recently?

"People in the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, did not need to interpret the Quran because they witnessed the revelation descending and lived through the events and occurrences. They were eloquent, understood the connotations of words and linguistic styles, possessed sound innate disposition (fitra), and lived alongside the Prophet, peace be upon him. The Prophet's interpretation was practical in his life, and he rarely interpreted through speech. Furthermore, the Quran was not interpreted comprehensively in all its connotations during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, nor during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, as its meanings renew themselves in every time and place."
