What is the ruling on straightening hair, and does the straightening agent form an insulating layer that prevents water from reaching it?

There is no harm for a woman in straightening her hair, provided that the material used is not harmful, and that it does not fall under extravagance and showing off. If it prevents water from reaching the hair, it must be removed when performing ghusl (ritual bath) or wudu' (ablution).
