Is playing chess forbidden? And does playing billiards online in Ramadan invalidate the fast and is impermissible?

The ruling on playing chess and billiards has been explained in previous fatwas. These rulings apply both inside and outside of Ramadan (definition). However, it is more emphasized to utilize Ramadan for remembrance (dhikr) and obedience, and to keep away from distractions, as it is the month of the Quran and liberation from Hellfire. It is a loss to spend it on things that bring no benefit. Just as the fasting person abstains from food and drink, they should also abstain from distractions and devote themselves to acts of worship. Prohibited actions harm the fast and diminish its reward.
