Why did the Prophet (peace be upon him) specify twenty-seven degrees for the congregational prayer, as a preference over individual prayer, and not mention another number?

It is authentically established in the Two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim) that congregational prayer is superior to individual prayer by twenty-five or twenty-seven degrees. Opinions have varied in reconciling these two numbers. Some suggest that mentioning the lesser number does not negate the greater, or that the Prophet, peace be upon him, was first informed of twenty-five, then of twenty-seven. The difference may also be attributed to the mosque's proximity or distance, the worshipper's state, the place where the prayer is performed, the number of people in the congregation, or the type of prayer (audible or silent). The specificity of this number is among the secrets of prophethood, which minds are too limited to comprehend. Believers must have faith in the unseen and affirm the tidings that come from Allah without undue effort to comprehend wisdom that has not been revealed, "He is not questioned concerning what He does, but they will be questioned."
