What is the ruling regarding a woman claiming to have seen the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a dream and to have received specific verses for healing people, and her promoting prayers not authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him), such as the Salat al-Nariya (Fiery Prayer)?
Seeing the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a dream is possible for every Muslim, and it is true if the dreamer sees him in his [true] form, for Satan cannot take his likeness. However, whatever is heard in the dream must be presented to the Sharia; what conforms to it is accepted, otherwise it is rejected. An example of this is the story of the man who saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a dream, and he commanded him to dig in a certain place to find treasure (rikaz). Some scholars issued a fatwa that the one-fifth (khums) was not obligatory, while Al-Izz ibn Abd al-Salam issued a fatwa that it was obligatory, considering that a dream of the Prophet does not exceed the status of a soundly authenticated hadith, and it was contradicted by what is more authentic than it, which is the hadith: "On rikaz, one-fifth is due."
