The prohibitions for a woman during the mourning period (iddah) are: not leaving the house except out of necessity or dire need, avoiding perfume except after menstruation, not wearing beautiful clothes or jewelry, and not applying kohl except out of necessity and in a way that its color is not apparent. It is permissible for her to speak with men, use the telephone, allow entry to those who may enter, ascend to the rooftop of the house day and night, and she is not required to perform ghusl or undo her hair weekly, nor to give charity at the end of the iddah.
