What is your opinion on the narration attributed to Abu Hurayrah with a sound chain of transmission, which indicates the annihilation of Hellfire, and states: "A day will come upon Hellfire when there will be no one left in it," and he recited: "As for those who are wretched, they will be in the Fire. For them therein is sighing and sobbing. Abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord wills. Indeed, your Lord is an accomplisher of what He intends"?

The traditions narrated from the Companions regarding the annihilation of Hellfire are not definitive texts and can be interpreted to align with the abundant evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah concerning the eternity of disbelievers in Hellfire. As for the narration from Abu Hurayrah, which might be understood to imply the annihilation of Hellfire, Shaykh Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, Ubaydullah ibn Mu'adh, clarified that it refers to monotheists, and this is the correct interpretation to reconcile it with the authentic hadiths.

This narration has a sound chain of transmission, but the answer to it comes from two angles: 1. It does not indicate the annihilation of Hellfire; rather, it is to be understood as referring to monotheists, meaning that none of the disobedient Muslims will remain in it. 2. Even if it were assumed to indicate the annihilation of Hellfire, it is the saying of a Companion, which does not constitute proof if it contradicts the authentic Sunnah, and there were Companions who issued fatwas against the annihilation of Hellfire.

Furthermore, Allah mentioned the eternity of disbelievers in Hellfire in three places in the Holy Qur'an, and the hadiths on the eternity of Hellfire are very numerous. Al-Khazin and Al-Baghawi, in their interpretation of this tradition, stated that it refers to the emptying of the places of the believers and their expulsion from it, while the places of the disbelievers remain ever-filled.

Nothing authentic has been reported from the Companions regarding the annihilation of Hellfire, and attributing this statement to them is an error. If anything authentic is found, it is to be interpreted as meaning that none of the disobedient believers will remain in it, while the places of theievers are ever-filled, and they will never exit from it.
