Why was the Torah given this name?

The Torah was named as such because its meaning is light and illumination, and this is the view of the majority, based on Allah's saying: "And We had already given Moses and Aaron the Criterion and a light and a reminder for those who fear Allah" (Al-Anbiya: 48). It is also said: it is derived from "At-Tawriya," meaning to allude to something while concealing it from others.
