What is the authenticity of the supplication: "O Allah, this city is Your city, and the Sanctuary is Your Sanctuary, and the safety is Your safety, and the servant is Your servant, and I am Your servant. I have come to You from a distant land, with many sins and bad deeds, and none forgives sins except You, so forgive me," upon entering Makkah?

The supplication (du'a) "O Allah, this land is Your land" has not been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Some jurists have mentioned it as an appropriate supplication, but the most that has been narrated regarding its chain of transmission is Al-Mawardi's narration from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather. Ibn Hajar commented on Al-Mawardi's chain, stating that it was not transmitted with a continuous chain, and he mentioned that the narration from Ibn Mas'ud, which contains a part of this supplication, has a weak chain. Therefore, it is correct not to adhere to this supplication or teach it to people in this specific form, fearing that it might be an innovation (bid'ah). Sheikh Al-Albani considered it among the forbidden innovations. However, if someone wishes to supplicate with it without adherence or believing in a special virtue for it, there is no harm in that.
