Is it permissible to perform the Adhan in the manner of Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad?
Melodizing the Adhan is disliked by the majority of scholars, but it does not invalidate it as long as it does not alter the meaning. However, if it alters the meaning or becomes excessive, it is forbidden. This has been reported from the Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali schools, while the Hanafis dislike excessive embellishment (tatrib) in the Adhan. It was mentioned that a melodized Adhan is still considered valid, despite the dislike, as long as the meaning remains intact; this is the view of the Hanbalis. The muezzin should adhere to not melodizing the Adhan, based on the saying of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz (may Allah be pleased with him): "Call the Adhan simply, otherwise, leave us."
