What is the reward for serving a pilgrim, and what are the relevant scriptural texts concerning this?

Assisting others, especially pilgrims, the elderly, and the needy, is a great deed that brings the love and pleasure of Allah, and His promise of goodness in this world and the hereafter, as Allah Almighty says: "And give good tidings to the doers of good." The texts of revelation are replete with the virtues of helping others, as Allah Almighty says: "For those who have done good is the best [reward] and extra [therefor]," and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The most beloved of people to Allah are those most beneficial to people, and the most beloved of deeds to Allah Almighty is happiness that you bring to a Muslim... And to walk with a brother to fulfill his need is more beloved to me than to seclude myself in this mosque for a month."
