What is the ruling on tattooing or drawing on prosthetic limbs?

Prosthetic limbs are not given the rulings of original body parts in matters of devotional obligations (takalif 'ibadiyyah). Therefore, tattooing them does not fall under the rulings of tattooing on a natural limb, nor is it considered an alteration of God's creation. Nevertheless, tattooing a prosthetic limb is forbidden if the design depicts living beings (dhawat al-arwah) or resembles the symbols of disbelievers and transgressors. Furthermore, tattooing may be disliked (makruh) or forbidden (haram) if it deceives the observer into thinking it is a tattoo on a real limb, or if it misleads others into believing that tattooing is permissible, especially for those who are looked up to as role models.
