Is it permissible to take money from subscriptions to meet a need after the insurance amount has decreased, and is that considered theft?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Insurance funds that pay the subscriber or their heirs the equivalent of 150 months are impermissible, because they remove them from being legitimate takaful (mutual solidarity) funds and place them under the category of maysir (gambling). It is possible for a subscriber to die after paying a small amount and become entitled to a salary equivalent to more than 12 years.
If you subscribe to such a fund, you are entitled to reclaim only your capital, and no one has the right to prevent you from doing so. If you are unjustly prevented from it, you may use a stratagem to retrieve it without being blamed.
