Is it permissible to say, "So-and-so has repented," and will Allah forgive whoever says that, and is it permissible to say to someone, "Do not say you have repented while you listen to music"?

Repentance is accepted from all sinners, even if they have aged and become unable to commit their sins, in accordance with the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, Allah Almighty stretches out His Hand by night to accept the repentance of the one who sinned by day, and He stretches out His Hand by day to accept the repentance of the one who sinned by night, until the sun rises from its setting place," and his saying: "Indeed, Allah accepts the repentance of His servant as long as he is not on his deathbed."

The majority of scholars hold that repentance from one sin is valid even while persisting in another, although Ibn al-Qayyim believes that repentance from a sin is not valid while persisting in another sin of the same type. However, it is valid if the other sin is unrelated to it and not of the same type. Complete repentance is achieved by repenting from all sins, so that the penitent may attain the absolute description of repentance.

The feeling of intense remorse is a sign of sincere repentance, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Regret is repentance."
