Is it permissible to take pills or apply patches to reduce appetite during Ramadan?

It is permissible to use adhesive patches for the mentioned purpose, provided they cause no harm. There is no difference in this regard between Ramadan and other months. However, it is not permissible to take pills while fasting. As for the patches, they are permissible at all times. Nevertheless, it is preferable to avoid them as they contradict the wisdom of fasting, which is to discipline the soul through hunger.
