The inheritance of a man who died leaving a wife, three sons, and five daughters is divided as follows:

For the wife: One-eighth, due to the existence of a inheriting offspring, based on the Almighty's saying: (But if you have a child, then for them [i.e., the wives] is one eighth of what you leave, after any bequest you [may have] made or debt.) An-Nisa/12. For the children (males and females): The remainder, with the male receiving the equivalent of the share of two females, based on the Almighty's saying: (Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females.) An-Nisa/11.
