What is the ruling on putting a small amount of saliva on the finger to turn the pages of the Qur'an?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The people of knowledge have explicitly stated the prohibition of wetting fingers with saliva to turn the pages of the Mushaf. Some of them have gone further, permitting spitting on a tablet on which Qur’an has been written to erase what is on it, because the one doing so does not intend disrespect. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid what is observed among many Muslims today, which is turning the pages of the Mushaf with saliva, to avoid scholarly disagreement and to revere the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. "And whoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allah – it is better for him in the sight of his Lord," and "And whoever honors the symbols of Allah – indeed, it is from the piety of hearts."
