What is the ruling on placing the Mushaf on a bed that has become wet with sweat and has not dried, or has dried but has not been washed? And does one who remains silent concerning someone who does that commit an act of disbelief? And what is the ruling on leaving prayer rugs upon which there are traces of saliva? And is it obligatory to wash the Mushaf if it is touched by sweat? And is there a difference between touching the Mushaf with something impure with the intention of disrespecting it, or without that intention?

Saliva and sweat are pure (tahir), and there is no obligation to wash anything they fall upon. However, the Mushaf (copy of the Qur’an) must be kept away from them out of reverence for it, as they are considered repugnant. Therefore, it is not appropriate to place the Mushaf on a spot where there is saliva or sweat. This is not considered disbelief (kufr) unless it is done with the intention of disrespect. Some scholars have permitted placing saliva on a writing tablet to erase what is on it, as long as it is not done with the intention of disrespect.
