The stolen item must be returned to its owner if the item itself is still in existence. Returning its value is not sufficient unless the owner agrees to it. If any part of the stolen item is missing, its value must be returned. It is not a condition to inform the victim of this; rather, it is sufficient to deliver it to him by any means. One's responsibility is absolved by seeking forgiveness and pardon from the victim without informing him of the theft.
