Is it permissible for a man and his wife to bathe together during her menstruation and postnatal bleeding, even if blood is discharged from her?

It is permissible for a man to bathe with his wife in one place, whether the bath is for ritual impurity (janabah (definition)) or for cleanliness. The presence of menstrual or postpartum blood does not prevent them from bathing together, and it is permissible for each of them to see the other's body. However, if they are bathing from a single vessel and blood from the wife mixes with the water, then if the water is less than two qullatayn (a measure of volume) and its color changes or does not change, it becomes impure (najis) and does not remove ritual impurity. But if the water is more than two qullatayn or does not mix with the blood, then the bath is valid for the husband. However, this bath does not suffice for the wife for her menstrual, postpartum, or previous janabah bath according to the majority of scholars. The Hanbalis, on the other hand, hold that the janabah bath is valid for a menstruating woman, and it is recommended as a means of alleviating the ritual impurity, thereby removing the ruling of janabah.
