The question

Is it obligatory to perform ghusl and make up the prayers for the fourth day, during which the bleeding stopped but did not resume on the fifth, or to wait until the fifth day, knowing that the white discharge (al-Qassah al-Bayda') was not seen previously but is now visible?

The answer

If a woman sees blood, she is in a state of menstruation. When she experiences purity, indicated by one of its two signs (complete dryness or white discharge), she must perform ghusl (ritual bath) and pray. If she sees blood again at a time when it can be considered menstruation, she returns to the state of menstruation until she sees purity, unless the total duration of menstruation and the intermittent bleeding exceeds fifteen days. If she sees purity on the fourth day, she must promptly perform ghusl and pray. If she delays ghusl after seeing complete purity, she is obligated to make up the prayers she missed. Some scholars have preferred waiting a day and a half after seeing purity before performing ghusl, but the more correct and cautious opinion is to perform ghusl promptly.
