What is the wisdom behind braiding a woman's hair into three braids upon death?

The majority of scholars hold the view that it is sunnah to comb the hair of the deceased woman and braid it into three plaits, contrary to the Hanafis who believe it should not be braided. The Hanafis base their argument on the hadith of Umm Atiyyah, which they interpret as her personal preference.

However, the correct view is that this was explicitly commanded by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as narrated by Saeed ibn Mansour and Ibn Hibban. The wisdom behind this has not been made clear, but a Muslim submits to what is found in the Sunnah, even though it is permissible to seek wisdom if possible without undue burden.
