What is the ruling on a woman going out with her eyes uncovered and having mascara on them that increases her beauty, knowing that some types of mascara prevent water from reaching the eyelashes and cause health damage to the eye?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for a woman to apply mascara that enhances the beauty of her eyelashes and eyes in front of non-mahram men, whether her face is uncovered or she wears a niqab that does not conceal her eyes. Ablution is not valid with it if it prevents water from reaching the skin. If it contains alcohol, the matter requires detailed clarification. However, if there is clear harm in its use, then its use is not permissible, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There should be no harm nor reciprocating harm." The determination of harm should be referred to specialists.
