Is blood that a pregnant woman sees five days before her postpartum period (nifas) in Ramadan considered menstrual blood (hayd) or postpartum blood (nifas)? And what are the implications of that?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a pregnant woman sees blood five days before childbirth, and she does not see any signs of impending labor such as contractions, then this blood is neither menses (hayd) nor post-natal bleeding (nifas); rather, it is irregular bleeding (dam fasad). She must continue with her acts of worship. However, if the blood is accompanied by signs of impending childbirth, such as labor pains and the like, then it is post-natal bleeding (nifas), for which she abstains from prayer and fasting, and she makes up for the fasting but not the prayer after her purity.
