Is defining the edges of the hair on the head with a razor or clippers considered Al-Qaza'?
Al-qaza‘ is the shaving or shortening of some hair but not other hair. It is reprehensible () unless it is intended to imitate disbelievers, in which case it becomes forbidden (). As for defining the edges of the hair at the nape and behind the ears after shaving, this does not fall under al-qaza‘ because it separates the hair of the head from other hair. Most of what is shaved in this definition is not originally from the hair of the head, and there is no harm in it as long as it does not involve any religiously prohibited matter. Imam al-Bukhari permitted shaving the hair of the sideburns and the nape because they are not considered part of the hair of the head.
