Did the divorce of his father's wife, who lives in another country, take effect after he said, "By God, I divorce you three times, I will sell the apartment tomorrow," about four months ago, and his intention at that time was that he did not mean anything by it but that it was out of anger, and he has now sold the apartment? And did the divorce take effect once or three times?

Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce unless it robs the person of their awareness and overwhelms their mind. The majority of jurists hold that an oath of divorce leads to divorce upon breaking the oath, and that a triple pronouncement of divorce counts as three divorces. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is of the view that an oath of divorce not intended to effect divorce, such as for emphasis or threat, is treated like an oath by Allah, requiring an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat yameen) upon breaking it, and does not lead to divorce. He also holds that a triple pronouncement of divorce counts as a single divorce. If the father intended to offer the apartment for sale, he does not break his oath if the sale is delayed due to market stagnation. It is advisable to present the matter to a Sharia court or trusted scholars.
