What is the recognized number for achieving the condition of Tawatur (multiplicity of narrators so large as to render it inconceivable that they have agreed upon a falsehood) in the Quranic recitations, especially since the recitation of Hafs from Asim was not transmitted from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, by more than five Companions?

The Qur'an is multiply transmitted (mutawatir), and every recitation (qira'ah) is multiply transmitted from its Imam, and multiply transmitted from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The multiple transmission of the recitations means that a group of people, whom it is impossible to conspire to lie, narrated it, generation after generation. The small number of chains of transmission for the reciters does not cause harm, because the people of each land received the recitations of their Imams from a large multitude, so the multiple transmission is established for them.
