Is it permissible to dispose of usurious gains by giving them to a university student son to buy study necessities, or to indigent brothers to pay off previous debts?
Usurious transactions are forbidden and are considered major sins. Repentance from them requires abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving never to return to it. Unlawful money must be disposed of by spending it on charitable causes and public welfare. It is not permissible for the repentant person to benefit from it to gain an advantage or ward off harm for himself. Therefore, do not spend from it on your son for his obligatory maintenance. However, it is permissible to buy devices for him or pay off his debt if his maintenance is not obligatory. It is also permissible to give these interest payments to a poor brother if his maintenance is not obligatory for you. It is not permissible for you to take these interest payments in exchange for waiving debts owed to you, because that involves a benefit returning to you. However, it is permissible to give them to debtors so they can pay off their debts to you.
