What we advise you regarding handling this matter with your wife is to approach her with wisdom and gentleness, because the issue of covering the face is a matter of disagreement among scholars. The majority do not consider a woman's face to be 'awrah (private parts that must be covered), while some scholars hold that it is 'awrah, and this is the relied-upon opinion for us. Based on the opinion of the majority, you will not incur sin, Allah willing, as long as she covers most of it. Perhaps she will respond to you in the future with gentleness and without strictness, and beware of being overly strict with her, lest you make her dislike the hijab.
