What is the reason for prohibiting the consumption of the meat of domestic donkeys and mules?

Allah the Almighty forbade certain things for humanity for a great wisdom, which we may or may not know. A Muslim receives Allah's command with submission because He is the Creator, All-Knowing of what is good for His servants. The meat of domestic donkeys was forbidden because it is "filth," as stated in the authentic hadith.
