What is incumbent upon a Muslim when the truth becomes obscure to him and he is unable to distinguish it from falsehood? And why do Muslims differ among themselves despite having one Book and praying towards one Qiblah? And why do successive stabs, insults, and betrayals befall the Ummah, yet it still sinks into a deep slumber?

Right and wrong are not indistinguishable; discerning between them requires knowledge of Allah Almighty's ruling on them. A Muslim must study the Quran and Sunnah and consult scholars when in doubt. The disagreement and division among Muslims are predestined for a divine wisdom. What is required of a Muslim in times of disagreement is to adhere to the methodology of the Sunnah and the Pious Predecessors and to call others to it. The silence and slumber of the Ummah, despite the blows it suffers, are also predetermined, as mentioned in the hadith of Thawban: "The nations are about to gather against you as people gather around a platter of food." Here, Muslims are likened to scum, and their weakness is attributed to their love of this world and their dislike of death. Muslims must unite their word, gather their affairs, adhere to their religion, and desire what is everlasting to restore their glory.
