The answer

Scholars have agreed that if a fasting person intentionally and willingly swallows something that nourishes or medicates, their fast is invalidated. The Hanafis and Malikis have mandated expiation along with a make-up fast if the person was aware. Allah has permitted the sick to break their fast and make it up later if there is hope for their recovery. As for those whose recovery is not hoped for, they must feed a poor person for each day they missed, based on the verse: ﴿And upon those who are able to fast, but with difficulty, a ransom of feeding a poor person.﴾ It is preferable to consult a trustworthy Muslim doctor to adjust medication times if possible.
