Will the Messenger (peace be upon him) and the martyr be held accountable?

Scholars differ on the issue of accountability for prophets and messengers. Some believe that they will be questioned, based on the Almighty's saying: "Then We will surely question those to whom [messengers] were sent, and We will surely question the messengers." They argue that this questioning will be about their conveying the message, in order to establish proof against the disobedient, and not a questioning of interrogation and reprimand. The proof for this is that some followers of the prophets enter Paradise without reckoning, so how much more so the prophets themselves? Others, however, believe that prophets will not be subject to questioning and reprimand, similar to the children of believers and those given glad tidings of Paradise.

As for the martyr, Hadiths indicate that he will not be tried in his grave, will be forgiven with the first gush [of blood], will be spared from the torment of the grave, will be secure from the Great Terror, will see his place in Paradise, will have the crown of dignity placed upon his head, will be married to seventy-two wide-eyed houris, and will intercede for seventy of his relatives. Nevertheless, these virtues do not indicate that the martyr will not be held accountable. Rather, he will be held accountable for debts, but his reckoning will be an easy one, which is the عرض (presentation) – meaning the presentation of deeds to the believer so that he may know God's favor upon him in concealing them and forgiving them.
