What is the ruling on one who swears an oath by divorce not to speak to his friend, and what is incumbent upon both parties?

A Muslim is not permitted to abandon his brother for more than three nights, except for a legitimate Shar'i reason, and discord is the shaver (i.e., that which shaves away religious commitment). Oaths should not be an impediment between a Muslim and righteousness. Allah, the Almighty, says: "And do not make [your oath by] Allah an obstacle against your being righteous and fearing Allah and making peace among people. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing." The harm of divorce occurring is greater than the harm of estrangement.
