Is it true that the Maturidis excommunicated the Ash'aris?

This fatwa (definition) discusses the Islamic sects, "Ash'aris" and "Maturidis," providing a historical overview of each. It then reviews the most prominent issues on which the Ash'aris and Maturidis differed, which are three:

1. The Creation of Faith: The Ash'aris believe that faith is created, while the Maturidis believe it is uncreated and declare anyone who says it is created to be a disbeliever. 2. Exception in Faith: The Ash'aris make an exception in faith by saying, "I am a believer, if Allah wills," considering that faith is what a servant meets his Lord with, and this is unknown to him. The Attribute of Takwin (Creation/Bringing into Existence): The Ash'aris say that the attributes of actions are contingent, and takwin is the very essence of the created thing.
