What is the ruling on interpreting the Qur’an according to the Ash'ari and Maturidi schools of thought?

The Ash'aris and Maturidis are followers of Abul-Hasan (definition) Al-Ash'ari and Abu Mansur Al-Maturidi, respectively. They are the closest among the theological (Kalam) sects to the methodology of the Salaf and the People of Hadith (definition). Although they have commendable efforts in defending the religion and refuting atheists and innovators, they have fallen into some errors and invalid interpretations, especially in interpreting the divine attributes. They also went to extremes in irja’ (postponing judgment on faith/deeds) and approached the doctrine of al-mujbirah (fatalists) regarding divine decree.

One must accept what aligns with the truth from their discourse, which is abundant in their exegetical works, and reject what they erred in, while offering them an excuse. The tafsir (definition) (exegesis) of Ibn Atiyah and similar works are better than many other tafsirs, but he sometimes abandons the discourse of the Salaf and relies on the sayings of the People of Kalam which contradict the doctrines of the Companions and the Tabi'in. What aligns with the truth and the discourse of the Salaf from their interpretations is acceptable, and what contradicts the principles of the Salaf is rejected.
