How can a servant come to know his destiny?

Everything that befalls a servant is predetermined and inscribed in the Preserved Tablet, and the servant does not know the unseen. Therefore, there is no way to know what will afflict him except after it has occurred. The wise person does not preoccupy himself with what is beyond his reach, but rather with what he can accomplish and benefit from. Thus, the servant must strive in lawful means and rest assured that Allah is the Most Merciful of Rulers and knows what is best for him, in accordance with His Almighty saying: "And perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not."
