"The original principle is the obligation of standing in the obligatory prayer. Whoever is unable or finds it exceedingly difficult to stand is permitted to sit, due to the Prophet's ﷺ saying: ""Pray standing; if you are unable, then sitting."" If praying while standing is difficult for you, then you are allowed to sit on a chair or something else, and you must perform what you are capable of from the pillars and obligations. What you are unable to do is waived from you. If you are able to perform the bowing (Ruku’) and prostration (Sujud (definition)), then it is obligatory to perform them. Otherwise, then gesture with them, and make your prostration lower than your bowing. If you are able to sit on the ground to gesture with the prostration and to sit for the Tashahhud (definition) and the sitting between the two prostrations in the prescribed manner, then it is obligatory for you to sit on the ground. Otherwise, there is no blame on you in praying while sitting on the chair until the ailment is gone, then you sit in the place of standing and sitting, and you gesture with bowing and prostration, and you make your prostration lower than your bowing.
