Is my shunning of my paternal uncle’s wife — after her severe insult to me and my family, and her vow of revenge against us — while maintaining a good relationship with my paternal uncle and his children, considered forbidden (haram)?

A Muslim must guard his tongue from reviling, cursing, and uttering imprecations. A believer is not one who slanders or curses. Cursing the religion of Allah the Almighty is an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith, necessitating repentance and the renewal of the marriage contract. Cursing a Muslim is forbidden and is an act of wickedness, and Islamic law prohibits harming believers. Whoever is subjected to abuse should be patient, forgive, and respond to evil with good. A Muslim should not harbor grudges. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against abandoning someone for more than three days, and the best of them is he who initiates the greeting. Severing ties of kinship is even more strictly prohibited. One must break the barrier of estrangement and initiate peace and reconciliation. This applies to personal insults, but as for insulting the religion, it must be denounced by hand, tongue, or heart.
