Mut'ah (compensatory gift) is money paid by a husband to his divorced wife whom he separated from due to his mistreatment of her, in a separation for which she is not responsible. Its amount is determined by the husband's financial status and custom. It can be agreed upon by mutual consent or decided by a judge in case of dispute. Mut'ah is obligatory for every divorced woman, whether the divorce occurred before or after consummation, unless the divorce was due to a fault of the wife or based on her release of the husband from his obligations (ibra'). If the questioner agreed with her husband on an amount for her mut'ah, then the husband is absolved from the right of mut'ah. As for her personal belongings, they are her right, and it is not permissible for him to take them without her full consent.
